Memorial Day Weekend; A Tale in Pictures

Hooray for long weekends! I love Memorial Day Weekend, not just because I admire and respect all of the men & women who have & continue to fight for our country, because I do BELIEVE me I do, but I also love Memorial Day weekend because it really feels like the beginning of summer, and is extra time to spend having fun with loved ones (I think I might win an award for the worlds longest sentence here.... that or some serious reprimanding from all the English teachers out there!). This particular weekend we had record high temperatures in Chicago which really made me feel like summer is finally here! While a great deal of Chicago headed out of town we stayed in and had some fabulous family fun.

Saturday we met up with our friends Jason, AJ, and their son Mason, at Lincoln Park Zoo. Timmy was so excited when everyone got there and sort of acted as our tour guide. Our very animated tour guide. We checked out sea lions, crocodiles, pet a blue tongued lizard, and watched a tiger....

We also spied on some giraffes.

And no trip to LPZ is complete without a ride on the carousel. I love how Tim looks like he's having the most fun here. lol.

After nap we headed to Home Depot to pick up some plants. We're super lucky to have outdoor space, which is rare in the city, but wow our yard was a mess. It was definitely time for some cleanup.

We also finally got new sand for the sand table. Timmy is one happy camper and has already spent a ton of time playing outside and making a mess!

When we woke up on Sunday we decided to have a little swim since the temps were in the high 90s.

Someone didn't like it......

someone else definitely did!

Later in the day we headed over to our friends Ben & Tina's house to BBQ. They had a baby on Wednesday and Timmy was crazy excited to get to see him. When it was time to head over Timmy ran up to Tim and exclaimed "I have very special news. We're going to see Baby Bobby!" He then proceeded to tell us how much he loved Baby Bobby and how cute he is the entire drive to their house, despite the fact that he had yet to meet him! This kid is definitely the baby whisperer. lol. Oh, and he's totally right. Bobby is adorable.

I wanted to compare my gigantic 24 lb baby to teeny tiny Bobby! How could Hen have gone from only a few ounces bigger than Bobby to this in just under 10 months?!? Crazy!

And then we needed a picture with my other baby. Hehe!

The boys also enjoyed playing in Ben & Tina's real live yard with grass while the guys grilled.

Monday morning we went to get donuts then walked over to a nearby pond to see the baby geese. I grew up with a pond so I'm very familiar with geese, but man, they are something else in the city. They are so beyond acclimated to people, they will literally eat out of your hand.

Then we went home and planted some flowers. Timmy was excited to plant red flowers (his favorite color don't you know!) in a Lightning McQueen pot.

Timmy & I also worked on painting some flower pots for our front stairs over the weekend. I finally got them all finished and planted this afternoon. I wish I had taken a before picture of the front stairs because it looks so much cuter now. Granted my artistic ability is remedial at best, so the pots I made look like a 4th grader made them, but alas they bring some fun color to the front. New pots and wreaths and I'm loving our fresh new look outside!

It was a lovely weekend. I'm still on the lookout for a friend with a boat or a lake house for future holiday weekends, but this was pretty perfect. Warm sunny weather and my guys? Perfection.
