This is a very special post for me to write, and I know a lot of my Mom friends who blog are writing the very same one today. I'm part of an online Mom's group. Most of us met when we were pregnant with our first batch of kiddos, and we have formed an incredible bond. This is a group of women from all over the country, and what a group we are! I am so proud to call these women my friends. At time we may argue and bicker just like any friends (and honestly that can be part of the fun!), but the majority of the time you couldn't find a group of ladies more connected and supportive of one another. We're fun, funny, strong, fabulous Moms, and we will do anything for one another.
Last October our strength was tested as one of our ladies, Jeni, was faced with an awful medical situation and was forced to deliver her baby girl, Layla Kathleen, at 24 weeks 2 days, weighing only 1 lb 6 oz. I knew that our group was strong, but the way that we banded together to support Layla and her family was incredible. Each and every one of us did everything we could to help ease the struggle for Layla & her family. We donated money, gifts, cried, and prayed over Layla as if she was our very own. And in a way she is.
Layla is much like her "aunties" in that she is a FIGHTER. This baby girl has progressed in an amazing fashion, defying all the odds for a baby so small. She's a baby that not so many years ago wouldn't have survived, and in many cases today wouldn't make it, but not our Layla - she was going to get through this. I am so proud today to say that she HAS gotten through the worst of it. Today, February 10, 2012, Miss Layla Kathleen is ON HER WAY HOME!!!! She is packed snug as a bug in her carseat, riding home to her Mommy, Daddy, and her beautiful Big Sister Alaina.
Layla, you are a miracle. I am so proud to have been a part of your life and to have witnessed your amazing growth. You have the most incredible, strong mother. She is a rockstar and amazes me each and every day with her strength. Honestly I don't think I could have handled this situation with the grace and dignity she has. You are both an inspiration to me. I hope to have 1/10 of the strength you ladies have. Congratulations sweet girl. I know you are going to love being at home with your family, and oh how they are going to love having you home with them. I am just elated for you. We all love you and are so excited to watch you grow into the amazing woman I know you'll become!
I stole a few pics from Jeni's Facebook wall to share with you. This first one is from the day Layla was born. Gives you an idea of how tiny she was.
Beautiful baby Layla now!
On her way HOME!!!!!
